ÆON

ÆON, created in collaboration with Dance Company Osnabrück,  is a visceral exploration of time—its birth, its pauses, its transformations. In three movements, the dance trilogy created by choreographer Johanna Nuutinen traverses the infinite cycles of existence, where every beginning holds its end, and every ending births something new.

From the first flickers of movement, ÆON breathes life into time’s genesis, where chaos finds form and pulses seek rhythm. In her sensitive, clear choreographic style, Johanna Nuutinen explores the fragile infinity of origins, the tension between past and future, and the uncertainty of the outcome. Suspended between past and future, the work lingers in the spaces of decision, where moments stretch before they slip away. Finally, it confronts endings—not as conclusions, but as thresholds to transformation.

Time unfolds, bends, and loops back on itself, embodied through raw physicality and evocative soundscapes. ÆON invites us into the complexity of time and reflects on how it shapes our world and our existence.

About the title:

Æon (or eon) =

A vast or indefinite period of time – Often used to describe an era, eternity, or an immeasurably long span of time.

A major division in geological time – In geology, an eon represents the longest unit of time, spanning hundreds of millions of years.

1.part CREA

CREA is a visceral exploration of the birth, creation and the beginnings—a journey into the moment when existence first trembles into being.

Both intimate and immense, CREA traces the fragile yet infinite beginnings of everything—where every origin already contains its end.

2.part VAULT

Situated between CREA—the realm of birth, creativity, and beginnings—and EVER, which reflects endings and the inexorable continuum of time, VAULT inhabits the charged space between these two poles.

It is a study of the tension that arises in the gap between what is and what we imagine could be. In this suspended chamber, desire grows restless. Dissatisfaction thickens the air. We reach, grasp, accumulate—driven by a hunger for more, long before recognising that we already carry everything we need.

VAULT confronts the relentless pull of wanting, the ache of not-enough, and the illusions that shape our striving.

3.part EVER

EVER turns its gaze toward the many faces of an ending. An end may arrive as an inevitable conclusion, a full stop, or a moment of transition. Yet it can also mark a threshold—a quiet opening into something new—where nothing truly disappears but instead transforms, shifts, or continues in unfamiliar form.

The work invites the audience to linger in this ambiguity and consider what “the end” means in their own lives. Is anything ever entirely finished? Or do our endings echo forward, reshaping themselves into beginnings we have not yet recognised?

EVER asks us to sense the subtle continuum beneath the surface of closure and to question whether anything is ever, in its finality, forever over.
